Do you have a favorite local charity you would like to support but aren’t sure how to go about it? Call the United Way of Umatilla & Morrow Counties.
The United Way has been supporting nonprofit organizations in Umatilla County since 1953 and those in Morrow County since 2003. Its sole purpose is to make sure those organizations have the support and funding necessary to serve individuals and families in need.

Among the area organizations supported by the local United Way are area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Good Samaritan Ministries, Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, Agape House, Campus Life, the Stanfield Food Basket, Hermiston Band Boosters, Tonya’s House, Foster Grandparents and many more.

United Way of Umatilla & Morrow Counties also helps people who have lost their homes to fires, those having trouble paying their utilities and senior citizens struggling to maintain their independence.
Kricket Nicholson, executive director of the United Way of Umatilla & Morrow Counties, said donors can specifically request that their donation go to a specific organization.
“You can give a give a donation and the money will go directly to the agency you designate,” she said.
Once the fund-raising campaign is through, local non-profit agencies can begin applying for money. The deadline to apply is mid-February.
