Maurice “Varda” Conger of Hermiston passed away in Richland, Wash. on Dec. 8, 2021 at the age of 78.
He was born on May 22, 1943 in Hood River to Maurice and Arleatha Houston Conger.
Varda lived in Washington state and in central California as a child. His family later returned to Oregon, and he graduated from high school in Portland. He then attended Portland State University for a year. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves at the end of the Vietnam War. He worked throughout his career in the Portland area as a salesman, selling industrial equipment until retiring in 2018. His love for the country life brought him to Hermiston.
Varda enjoyed country dancing, boating, bowling and hunting.
Varda married Susan Craig in Forest Grove on April 20, 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan; daughter, Lindsey Conger; son, Jason Conger; stepchildren, Randy Lapo Jr. and Angela Gullett; grandchildren, Tyler Conger, Randy Lapo III, Ian Lapo, Mia Lapo and Abbigale Gullett.
