Vernon Vogt

Vernon Le Roy Vogt passed away on July 14, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 85.

William and Byrda Vogt welcomed their little cowboy on Dec. 16, 1936 in Salem.

Vernon had six siblings, and he shared many stories of his adventures and love for his siblings.

Vernon loved to farm, and after serving in the U.S. Army, he began his career in farming in Fabens, Texas as a cotton farmer. In his previous marriage he had four beautiful children, Anita, Naomi, Joe, and Jesse. In the 1970s he met his beautiful bride, Manuela Vogt, along with her two children, Teresa and Albert. He then moved to Eltopia, Wash., where he established Hi-View Ranch. Soon after, Veronica and Jason were welcomed into the family. A few years later they moved to Basin City, Wash., where Vernon continued his love of farming.

Vernon not only loved to farm; he enjoyed caring for his animals and had the most meticulous garden you could imagine. He also enjoyed country and gospel music. One would often find his favorite artists blaring in the living room. He enjoyed traveling and trips to see his siblings, which also included a stop to enjoy the crashing waves found on the Oregon coast. He also enjoyed visits to Mexico to see family and always looked forward to visiting his niece in Australia. One of his most memorable trips was visiting Costa Rica. He traveled with his brother, Jon, his daughter, and son-in-law. He had a knack for storytelling and when he was not working, one could find him driving his white pick-up, pulled up to another farmer and swapping stories.

Vernon moved to Hermiston in the summer of 1998. He loved the farm, and even though in his later years he was not able to farm, he enjoyed watching the farmers that surrounded him. He loved spending time with his children, family and lifelong friends. He was at peace in knowing the Lord. He enjoyed his Bible study sessions and despite the heartache of losing his siblings and a child, he had a wonderful life. Vernon was very blessed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Manuela; seven children; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his brother, Ray Vogt.

This cowboy now rides on, and he is sitting in heaven with his long-lost friends and family members, getting caught up and swapping stories.

A family celebration of life will be held.
