The first Morrow County Volunteer Expo, a recruitment event, is being held at the SAGE Center next month.

The event, sponsored by Abengoa and Portland General Electric, will bring service groups together to show Morrow County residents where help is needed and to learn about their communities. The expo is slated for May 6 at 101 Olson Road, Boardman, from 3:30-7 p.m.

Sheryll Bates, Heppner Chamber of Commerce director and an event organizer, said the event will allow organizations to highlight what they offer the community and where they need help.

“This is a chance for people to take advantage of finding out what’s happening in Morrow County,” Bates said. “It is also a good opportunity for volunteers to see how these community groups work.”

Groups that are seeking volunteers and are interested in participating can contact the SAGE Center at (541) 481-7243, Boardman Chamber of Commerce at (541) 481-3014, Irrigon Chamber of Commerce at (541) 922-3857, or the Heppner Chamber of Commerce at (541) 676-5536. Groups looking to recruit volunteers need to register for the event by April 30.

Dinner will be served during this free event. Children are welcome and can watch a free showing of Despicable Me in the SAGE Center movie theater starting at 5 p.m.
