Walter D. “Walt” Charter of Irrigon died on Aug. 24, 2021 in Hermiston at the age of 81.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa to Carl and Carmen Hook Charter.
Walt was raised in Iowa and Nebraska and later worked at various resorts in the kitchen. He later worked as a carpenter when he lived in Hillsboro.
Walt married Margaret Sisco on Jan. 2, 1976 in Pasco, Wash. They have lived most of the years in Irrigon, and Walt worked for Columbia Improvement District in Boardman in the Irrigation Department for nearly 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, trips to see family in Nebraska and vacation at the coast.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, David; daughters, Leah, Coral, Jessie and Terri; brothers, Bill and Owen; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren with another on the way.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Columbia View Community Church, Irrigon.
