Wanda Fayette Houghtelling, of Condon, Oregon, passed away on October 26th, 2025 at the age of 85.

Born in Mojave, CA in 1940, she moved to and grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon.  Wanda lived with the love of her life, Harold L. Houghtelling in the Hillsboro Rock Creek area for over 20 years before retiring to Condon in the late 1990’s.  Harold passed away in January 2010 from cancer.  Wanda was known in the community for always having a smile on her face, her door open, and the coffee on.

Wanda was a devoted mother to Debra James (spouse, Aarin), Robert James (spouse, Marcie), Jeff James (spouse, Jennifer) and Sheryl Houghtelling Carlson (spouse, Hank).

She was a beloved grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren whose lives she enriched with love, wisdom and laughter.  She was that special aunt you could count on to be there when you needed her and the cousin that felt like a sister.

Wanda is survived by her children and also sisters Nona Childers of Condon OR., Melba Barnes of Sequim WA, Diane Landreth of Glenns Ferry ID, Jeanie Dohle of Daphne AL, Bobbie Crone of Glenns Ferry ID,  and brother Richard Richey of Hillsboro Oregon.

Known for her kindness, wit, and strength, Wanda found joy in gardening, baking, cooking, giving advice to family and friends, or just visiting and spending time with loved ones.  Her presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.

Family and close friends will gather for a graveside service to celebrate Wanda’s life and legacy on November 8 at 2 p.m. in Condon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wade Vet Clinic, or the American Cancer Society, organizations close to Wanda’s heart.

Condolence messages for the family may be left online through Sweeney Payton.

Sweeney Payton Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
