How about a dip in the chilly Columbia River to start the new year while helping Umatilla area kids keep warm?

Umatilla-Morrow County Head Start and the city of Umatilla are partnering on the first annual Coats for Kids Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 2. The coat drive benefits children in need through age 18.

The event takes place at the Umatilla Marina Park swim beach from noon to 2 p.m. For details on how to participate, go online.
