To the Editor:
I am a former resident of Hermiston, I lived there for 38 years and I am disappointed in the choice of words to identify the community. Having the water tower say Hermiston: You Can GROW Here – grow here? In what ways can you grow there? I come back to visit family and I haven’t seen much growing of anything except a Mexican restaurant on every corner. There is no good shopping to bring anyone in to Hermiston, and there sure isn’t any great choices for dinning out.
I would like to spend my money in my hometown but end up spending it across the river in the Tri-Cities. I would have thought by now Hermiston would have realized how much money would be spent there just by bringing in some better shopping besides Wal-Mart, and a better selection of restaurants. Having the Tri-Cities in your back door would bring them over just to save on sales tax alone, but when all you have is Wal-Mart, not much reason to bring people over to spend money. So if you want to say Hermiston a place you can grow, then stand behind what you say and show the community you have all their best interest in mind.
