William Andrew “Bill” Thompson Jr. passed away on June 14, 2013 at his home in Umatilla at the age of 82.
He was born on March 21, 1931 in Portland to William and Catherine Thompson. His family moved to Umatilla in the 1940s. Bill graduated from Umatilla High School in 1948. He went on to graduate from Linfield College with a B.A. in accounting. Bill served in the Korean War and after his honorable discharge he returned to Umatilla. He owned and operated the Columbia Café Restaurant and bar in Umatilla and later worked for Lamb Weston. Bill loved living near the Columbia River, where he spent many years boating, fishing, and water skiing. He also enjoyed hunting, loved sports, crossword puzzles, and spending time with his children. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, generosity, loyal friendship, and his love of ketchup.
He is survived by his wife, Lea Thompson, Umatilla; sons, Bill Thompson, Hermiston, and Basil Thompson, Eugene; daughter, Leah Thompson, Portland; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Pilcher, Tonasket, Wash.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Wallace H Thompson and Wayne L. Thompson.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff of Vange John Memorial Hospice for their care of our beloved husband and father. His children would also like to thank the many neighbors and friends that offered their assistance to our parents through our father’s illness.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View IOOF Cemetery, Goldendale, Washington.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
