A winter weather advisory is in effect for Eastern Oregon until 10 a.m. this morning.

The National Weather Service is reporting that a winter storm will continue to produce periods of heavy snow across parts of Eastern Oregon this morning, including the Hermiston and Boardman areas. The weather service expects up to another one or two inches of new snow to fall Wednesday morning.

Heavy snow fell throughout much of Tuesday and local school districts have canceled classes throughout Umatilla and Morrow counties.

Several scheduled events were canceled Tuesday evening due to the hazardous weather conditions. BMCC shut down at 5 p.m., canceling all evening classes. Good Shepherd Medical Center postponed an event in which the hospital was to donate $500,000 to the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation. The Irrigon Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday night that today’s luncheon was canceled. The Boardman City Council also canceled Tuesday’s scheduled meeting.

Temperatures will begin dropping as the week continues, but no new snow is forecast in the coming days. Overnight temperatures will hover around 2 to 5 degrees with highs in the mid-teens throughout the rest of the week.
