A family outing turned tragic on Sunday when a Sublimity woman died in a UTV accident in South Morrow County.
Kristi Lulay, 61, was operating a utility terrain vehicle or side-by-side around 1 p.m. off Road 21 near Ellis Creek when it overturned killing her and injuring her 9-year-old granddaughter. The granddaughter reportedly had minor injuries but was transported to a Portland-area hospital for overnight observation.
According to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, the Lulay family had been coming to the area for family camping trips for many years. On Sunday, several friends and family members were riding ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles following each other through the forest. Kristi Lulay was traveling under 20 mph when the accident happened, according to the sheriff’s office.
Heppner Ambulance and Heppner Fire Department provided assistance.
