A Brothers Grimm staple, Cinderella, the story of a beautiful young woman with unrecognized virtues who is magically redeemed from a life of oppression, will be brought to life when the Eugene Ballet Company comes to Hermiston High School tonight.

“This classic rags-to-riches story is revitalized through the exquisite pairing of orchestral arrangement and the expression of dance” said Desert Arts Council member and Event Chairman Mark Morgan.

Bring the entire family to watch the mean stepsisters try their best to squash Cinderella’s dreams. See if the Fairy Godmother can spin her magic and bring joy into your hearts as well. Desert Arts Council President Mary Corp said, with the romance of the prince, the comedy of the stepsisters and the grandeur of the ball, Cinderella has a little something for the entire family and remains one of the greatest ballets of all time.

“This is the magic that makes you believe that there is justice in life and right will prevail – it cannot be missed,” Corp said.

The Eugene Ballet Company is a resident company of the Hult Center of Performing Arts out of Eugene. Their 20-member ensemble, under the artistic direction of Toni Pimble and managing director Riley Grannan, has toured 32 states and internationally, visiting India, Syria and Sri Lanka to name a few.

Cinderella is one of 40 original works choreographed for the company by Pimble who studied at the Royal Academy of Dance in London. Her awards and fellowships include two Oregon Arts Commission Artist Fellowships and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.

The production will take place at the Hermiston High School Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the ballet beginning at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are on sale now for $35 for adults, and those under 18 are $17.50. Tickets at the door will be $40 for adults, and $22.50 for those under 18. Tickets available on line at the Desert Arts Council website and at the Hermiston Chamber or City Hall. This Desert Art Council performance is available due in part to the generous title sponsorship of the Hermiston Breakfast Kiwanis Club.
