HERMISTON, Ore.-Multiple fires have broken out in the Hermiston area since Memorial Day and Umatilla County Fire District #1 is reminding everyone that open burning is closed.

Outdoor burning season closed within the Umatilla County Fire District 1 service area as of June 1.

According to UCFD1, we are already in peak fire season and the community can help prevent fires by following the open burn ban.

Violation of the burn policy may be punishable by a fine up to $250.00 or the cost of fire response and/or suppression for apparatus and personnel, whichever is greater in accordance with the Fire District Cost Recovery Ordinance.

Outdoor burning is not allowed June 1 through September 30 but will reopen on October 1. A full breakdown of UCFD1’s burn policy, including some frequently asked questions concerning when burn season is, and what can be burned is available online.
