PORTLAND, Ore.-Portland’s expansion Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team announced its new name and brand identity on July 15.

The team will be the Portland Fire and feature a burning rose logo in a red, brown, blue and pink color scheme, in a nod to the original WNBA franchise that played in Portland from 2000 to 2002, according to a press release from the team.

“We are thrilled to complete the journey of bringing professional women’s basketball back to the Rose City, while honoring the legacy of the original franchise to blaze a new, bold path forward,” said Clare Hamill, Interim President of the Portland Fire.

Portland was awarded the 15th WNBA franchise in the fall of 2024 and will play at the Moda Center beginning in 2026.

The team hosted a fan launch party at the Moda Center to announce the new name, logo and lettering that incorporates elements of the City of Portland, regional geography, and its sporting heritage.

The branding and lettering was inspired by the 12 bridges that connect Portland from East to West and the silhouette of Mount Hood, while the rose on fire logo represents Portland’s iconic flower and the intensity of flames, “evoking the power, grit, calm and creativity that defines the team,” according to the Portland Fire.

“We’re proud to reignite the Portland Fire and can’t wait to welcome new and longtime fans to the Moda Center in 2026,” said team owner Lisa Bhathal Merage.

Deposits have already been placed for over 10,000 season tickets, according to the team, and official Portland Fire merchandise is now available online.
