HERMISTON, Ore.-The Hermiston Public Library will host a grand reopening celebration on October 10.

The community is invited to visit the renovated library at 235 E. Gladys Avenue at 10 a.m. for a ribbon cutting, guided tours, treats, and giveaways, according to the library.

Attendees will also be able to see public art displays, including a mobile of butterflies, and a giant Lite-Brite in the children’s area, as well as art by local artists Hiroko Cannon and Arlen Clar at the opening.

“Every aspect of this project was designed with Hermiston’s future in mind — from creating inspiring spaces for kids and teens, to providing innovative technology in the Makers Space,” said Mark Rose, Director of the Hermiston Public Library.

According to the library, the goals of the renovation, which took about a year to complete, included improved safety and accessibility, creating dedicated spaces for teens and children, new study rooms and a maker’s space, as well as allowing for more natural light with expanded windows throughout the building.

Enterprise Zone funds committed by both the City of Hermiston and Umatilla County paid for the renovations, with support from projects by Lamb Weston and Amazon currently underway.

“This is a library built for tomorrow, and we’re thrilled to share it this month,” said Rose.
