HERMISTON, Ore.-It’s been said that the two best words in sports are “game seven,” on Monday night, the Seattle Mariners will find out if that’s true when they take on the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Seattle grounded into three inning-ending double-plays and committed three uncharacteristic errors in the field in a 6-2 loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday, to set up the winner-take-all game seven.

The Mariners are the only team in Major League Baseball (MLB) to never make it to the World Series, and Monday’s game seven is also the first in club history.

The Seattle Mariners started play in 1977 and the team did not even have a winning record for the first 15-years of its existence, before finishing four games over .500 in 1991.

The Mariners have only made the playoffs six times in their existence, but the 2025 squad has felt like a team of destiny all year, with solid pitching, timely hitting and the historic power of Cal Raleigh’s 60-homer season.

The Mariners won 17 of 18 games down the stretch to surge into the playoffs, before outlasting Detroit in a 15-inning game five thriller in the American League Division Series (ALDS).

Baseball fans in the Pacific Northwest have been waiting 48 years for this moment, and it all comes down to this, game seven, season on the line, a World Series berth hanging in the balance.

George Kirby will start game seven for the Mariners, while Toronto will counter with Shane Bieber.

“I love pitching under pressure and I’m super glad I’m able to get game seven,” Kirby said ahead of his game seven start.

First pitch of game seven is set for 5 p.m. on FOX.
