HERMISTON, Ore.-A new drop-off center to expand access to recycling services is now open in Hermiston.

The new RecycleOn Center, located at Sanitary Disposal at 8144 N. Highway 395, provides a place for residents to drop-off some common plastic materials not accepted in home or work recycling bins.

“This center plays an important role in supporting sustainable practices across Umatilla County and surrounding communities,” said Kevin Miracle, District Manager at Sanitary Disposal. “By using the RecycleOn Center, residents are directly contributing to a cleaner community and a more efficient recycling system.”

Hermiston’s RecycleOn Center is a partnership between Circular Action Alliance (CAA), a nonprofit, producer-led organization focused on compliance, waste reduction, increased recycling, and Hermiston Sanitary Disposal.

The center in Hermiston is part of a statewide network of 140 drop-off locations planned in every county of Oregon by 2027, to provide convenient, no-cost recycling options, according to CAA.

Under Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act, RecycleOn Centers are funded by the brands and companies that produce paper and packaging, which ensures that more of the items they sell are recycled.

According to CAA and Sanitary Disposal, RecycleOn Centers help reduce contamination in recycling, while protecting operations and workers at recycling facilities and ensuring more materials are recycled.

Eight items accepted at RecycleOn Centers

  • Plastic bags and other stretchy plastics
  • Plastic lids from food containers
  • Plastic caps from containers and jars
  • Plastic package handles, including six-pack drink carriers
  • Plastic buckets and pails
  • Shredded paper in a paper bag (bag must be stapled or rolled shut)
  • Aluminum foil and trays
  • Glass bottles and jars

“RecycleOn Centers provide Oregonians with the opportunity to recycle more items than ever before,” said Kim Holmes, Oregon Executive Director at CAA. “By offering dedicated drop-off locations, we can support local communities, improve recycling outcomes and create a more circular system for the state.”
