Phyllis Steward Passes Away at 90

Phyllis Susan Steward of Arlington died on April 24, 2026 in Hermiston at the age of 90.

She was born on April 1, 1936 in Chicopee, Mass. and raised by her parents, Emery and Jean Clark in Seattle, Wash. and later Rufus.

Phyllis married Howard Steward and they moved to Arlington in 1968, where she had lived since. She worked for a time as a cook for the Arlington School District and was also a high school volleyball referee. Phyllis was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards and Bunko, reading, crossword puzzles and riding on the back of the motorcycle as she and Howard went on many road trips.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Wilkins and her husband Jeff, Arlington, and Connie Hampton, Lantana, Texas; son, Steven Steward, Arlington; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren with three more on the way.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Mark; a daughter, Julie; a great-grandson, Cameron; and her parents.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the Arlington Cemetery.
