A Hermiston man considered a person of interest in a shooting that took place on May 19 has been located and arrested.
Alex Ahumada, 33, was arrested Wednesday in Boardman by the Hermiston Police Department and the Oregon State Police.
Ahumada was described as a “person of interest” in the shooting that took place on the night of May 19 at the 200 block of Beebe Avenue. Carlos Ramirez, 27, of Hermiston, was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center by private vehicle to treat a gunshot wound.
On Wednesday, around 2:50 p.m., the Hermiston Police Department was contacted by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office with potential information on the whereabouts of Ahumada, who also had a felony parole violation warrant for his arrest.
At approximately 4 p.m., the Hermiston Police Department sent its two general detectives, one drug task force detective, and Investigative Lt. Randy Studebaker to the Boardman area to assist.
The Oregon State Police SWAT team was later called for assistance as multiple subjects were believed to be in the residence with Ahumada. OSP troopers from around the state that are assigned to the SWAT team began to trickle in over the course of several hours.
In the end, Ahumada was taken into custody without incident and the Hermiston Police Department is forwarding its entire investigation to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging.
Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston said he was grateful for the quick response from the OSP.
“The fact Eastern Oregon law enforcement can make a request for assistance that is met without question is a testament to the mission of that agency and its leaders,” he said. “We have a very positive and healthy relationship with the state police and we are grateful for the resources they provide us.”
