One man is in jail following an incident in which a residence in Hermiston was shot at.

Emiliano Pasillas, 18, was arrested Thursday and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, criminal mischief, reckless driving, reckless endangering, and attempt to elude.

The arrest stems from Wednesday, June 7 around 10:30 p.m. when a Hermiston Police Department officer observed several individuals in the act of shooting at a residence near W. Ridgeway Avenue and N.W. Sixth Street.

According to HPD Chief Jason Edmiston, the officer immediately attempted to take enforcement action but the suspect vehicle sped from the scene, leading the officer on a pursuit through residential neighborhoods and eventually to Old River Road. Upon losing sight of the vehicle due to high rates of speed, the officer ended the pursuit.

Edmiston said the vehicle was then observed entering the city of Umatilla, resulting in another pursuit, during which the vehicle crashed. According to the police chief, two juveniles and one adult were detained after the crash. Another adult fled the scene and was not located at that time. One juvenile was lodged at the Umatilla County Juvenile Detention Center for outstanding warrants. Edmiston said additional charges are pending.

On Thursday, June 8, Pasillas, the adult suspect who fled, turned himself in to Hermiston police.

Edmiston said the Hermiston Police Department was assisted by the Umatilla Police Department, Oregon State Police and Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Umatilla County Search.

“We continue to experience an increase in reckless crimes and though it was diligent of our officer to be in that area at the time of the shooting, that officer was only one of two working (that) night,” Edmiston said. “Ultimately this act required us to call in one additional officer, two detectives, and one lieutenant to ensure we were able to properly investigate the matter. We will work with property management in this area to inform them of the activities involving their tenants.”

  1. Article does not explain if this is targeted at a particular home of someone they know or if a random shooting thing.
As public we need to know.I doordssh right on that block all the time and need to know if theres a trend of random shooting by juveniles or just good ol gang thing , which concerns me less unless I’m caught in a crossfire or something.

  2. A probable situation of gang activity which needs to be stopped immediately. We don’t need trash like that ruining our area.
