UMATILLA, Ore.-The Umatilla City Council is now accepting applications for residents interested in filling the recently vacated Council Seat 4.
Councilor Ashley Wheeler resigned from her seat before moving to Idaho to support her family, according to a City of Umatilla press release announcing the vacancy.
Interested candidates may apply online by filling out the application form and checking the “City Council” box on the form.
Applications may also be printed, filled out and turned into Umatilla City Hall care of Nanci Sandoval, City Recorder.
“If you are passionate about Umatilla’s future, we encourage you to apply for the vacant City Council position,” said David Stockdale, Umatilla City Manager.
Applicants must be registered to vote, have lived in Umatilla for at least a year before their appointment and cannot be employed by the City of Umatilla. Applications must be submitted by 1 p.m. on June 27.
The Umatilla City Council will interview applicants during its regular meeting on July 1, and the appointment is expected to be made that same evening.
Whoever is appointed to the vacant seat will serve until the next general election on November 4, 2025. If the appointee is interested in serving beyond November, they must file as a candidate in the general election.
“Umatilla is a thriving and wonderful community that we all love,” said Stockdale. “Serving on the City Council is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference for Umatilla.”
