Area Republicans Claim Victories in State House, Senate Races

Republican Bobby Levy easily topped her Democratic opponent Tuesday night to win a seat in the state’s 58th House District.

Levy, a business owner, farmer, and founding member of the Eastern Oregon Women’s Coalition, received 10,452 votes or 68 percent, to Nolan Bylenga’s 4,278 votes or 28 percent.

Levy announced last December that she would run to succeed Greg Barreto, who chose not to run for re-election.

Greg SmithIn other state elections, incumbent Republican Bill Hansell had no problem winning a third term as state senator from District 29. Hansell got 71 percent or 12,403 votes to Mildred O’Callaghan’s 7,687 votes or 23 percent.

Greg Smith also cruised to re-election Tuesday night. The Heppner Republican retained his seat as state representative from House District 57 with 12,403 votes or 71 percent, to Roland Ruhe’s 4,115 votes of 24 percent.
