The InCommunities Eastern Oregon Fund from Amazon Web Services is now open for applications, according to a press release from AWS.

The fund, a community grant program for projects in Umatilla and Morrow counties, accepts applications from individuals, local community groups, schools, nonprofits and other organizations for up to $10,000 each. Applications are due by Aug. 15, 2024.

The grants are intended to help launch or expand community projects focused on economic development and leadership, sustainability, health and well-being, community or science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

The funds will be managed and administered by ChangeX, a nonprofit organization, which will prioritize projects focused on underserved populations. All successful applicants will complete a 30-day challenge, which includes mentorship and other resources, to kick-start their idea and take their first steps towards making their project a reality.

“Since launching our data centers in Eastern Oregon more than ten years ago, we are grateful to have forged strong partnerships with local organizations in our collective efforts to support the community,” said Paul Butler, AWS community engagement manager, in the press release. “We’re proud to once again offer this program to help local neighbors bring their best ideas to life and provide funding that can make a positive and lasting impact.”

Amazon Web Services has committed a total of $350,000 to the fund, split evenly across the next two application cycles. The first cycle will close in August 2024, and the second will open in January 2025.

The fund began in 2022 for Umatilla and Morrow counties, with AWS awarding $300,000 in 2022 and 2023.

Between Umatilla and Morrow counties, Amazon Web Services has received more than a billion dollars in tax breaks since it first established a presence in the region more than a decade ago.
