BAKER CITY, Ore.-The Baker Bulldog Boys and Girls basketball teams are both into the quarterfinals of the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) State Tournament.
“We are extremely proud of our two varsity basketball programs, and we cannot wait to see them do their thing this weekend in Forest Grove,” said Baker High’s Athletic Director Simon Lamson.
The Baker boys will tip off against Crook County at 3:15 p.m. om March 13 at Forest Grove High School west of Portland.
Led by Head Coach Jebron Jones, the Baker boys went 16-8 in the 4A-6 Greater Oregon League this season.
“Coach Jones expects hustle, teamwork and intensity anytime you are on the floor, and he does an extremely great job getting that from each and every player,” said Lamson.
The team dealt with some injuries throughout the year, however, its tough schedule in terms of travel and playing games on back-to-back nights has prepared them for this run in the state tournament.
“This Baker Bulldog team is one of the hardest working teams I have ever seen play high school basketball,” said Lamson.
On the girls side of the bracket, Baker will face Henley in a quarterfinal matchup at 6:30 p.m. on March 13, also at Forest Grove High.
“It is always a great achievement to make it to the tournament, let alone have both boys and girls there,” said Jason Ramos, Head Coach of the Baker girls.
The Baker girls went 17-9 this season and were in almost every game they played, with seven of those nine losses coming by single digits.
“We are proud of our team, and look forward to carrying on a strong tradition of Baker teams at the state tournament,” said Coach Ramos.
The Baker boys and girls games will be streamed through the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Network on the OSAA website and over the OSAA radio network.
