The Blue Mountain Community College Foundation announced today, that 104 students have been awarded 126 Foundation scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year, totaling $268,650 — the highest amount in five years.

Scholarships were awarded based on academic performance and need, helping students cover tuition and educational expenses at Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC). This esteemed group of students share a combined goal of making a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

The Foundation received 184 scholarship applications from students across ten Oregon counties and four adjacent states.

“We believe each student will advance at BMCC, while continuing to make an impact in their chosen careers and personal lives,” said Ken Daniel, BMCC Foundation executive director. “It is an honor to invest in them, recognizing that many others, including family, friends, and educators, have made important contributions in helping them reach their potential. We extend our best wishes to each of these students as they embark on their BMCC experience.”

The scholarship awards were made possible due to the generosity of alumni, faculty, staff, and community friends that donated to the Foundation.

The foundation’s annual giving campaign, which kicked off Nov. 1, will raise funds to support student scholarships and student emergency assistance for the following academic year. Special emphasis will be placed on national Giving Day, Tuesday, Nov. 29, as an opportunity for the BMCC community to come together in support of students.

Monies raised will help students with more than just tuition. A gift of $20, $50, or $100 can help equip a student with steel-toe work boots, purchase tools for a work-ready job, pay for special certification testing, purchase gas for a student to get to class and work, and more.

“The support our students receive from the generous spirit of others is truly inspiring and touching.” Even a small amount makes an impact on the life of a BMCC student,” says Phil Hamm, chair of the BMCC Foundation Board of Directors.

Donors can support BMCC Foundation’s annual campaign by making a gift online or by sending a check to BMCC Foundation, PO Box 100, Pendleton, OR 97801.
