PENDLETON, Ore.-Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) in Pendleton is one of the top 100 community colleges in the nation, according to a recent study.

The personal finance website WalletHub ranked 653 community colleges across all 50 states on factors such as cost and educational and career outcomes, to determine the best community colleges, as well as the states with the best community college systems.

BMCC came in at number seven in the State of Oregon and 100th overall, according to WalletHub. Overall, Oregon’s community college system ranked sixth best in the nation.

“We’re thrilled!” said BMCC President Dr. Mark Browning, of the school’s high state and national ranking. “It’s always a nice confirmation that others see the value and return that comes from investing in oneself through training and education.”

Community colleges are an affordable option for students, according to WalletHub, with tuition and fees costing less than at traditional four-year schools.

“A good community college minimizes costs for students while also providing an enriching learning experience that leads to high student retention and high graduation rates,” said Chip Lupo, a WalletHub Analyst.

The WalletHub study also highlighted the flexible schedules and smaller class sizes available at community colleges that make them appealing educational options for students with family or work commitments.

“I’m happy for our faculty, staff and region that others see what we all know; Community Colleges work,” said President Browning.

The Fall 2025 term at BMCC starts September 22. More information about BMCC, applying and the programs of study offered is available online.
