BOARDMAN, Ore.-Boardman Chamber of Commerce CEO Torrie Ann Philippi-Griggs recently earned Institute for Organization Management (IOM) Graduate Recognition.

The professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the IOM provides chamber, association, and nonprofit executives with advanced skills in leadership, advocacy, marketing, finance, membership development, and organizational effectiveness.

“The experience exposed me to real-world challenges and solutions from communities similar to Boardman and beyond, allowing me to bring back practical ideas, broader perspective, and proven approaches,” said Philippi-Griggs.

Consisting of four weeklong sessions held at universities across the country, the IOM program is a mix of coursework, electives and peer networking opportunities attended by over 1,000 professionals each year, with graduates completing 96 credit hours of nonprofit management coursework.

“The campus setting created an immersive learning environment, and being hosted by the U.S. Chamber added a national perspective that made the experience both meaningful and memorable,” said Philippi-Griggs, who attended all four years of the annual IOM sessions at the University of Arizona campus in Tucson.

Founded in 1921, the IOM has helped thousands of association, chamber, and nonprofit leaders build stronger organizations, better serve their members, and become effective advocates for business and community growth, according to the U.S. Chamber.

“That knowledge strengthens my ability to lead the Boardman Chamber with confidence, support our members more effectively, and contribute thoughtful leadership not only in my role with the Chamber, but also through my volunteer service on other nonprofit boards,” said Philippi-Griggs.

As CEO of the Boardman Chamber, Philippi-Griggs has led initiatives focused on business advocacy, tourism promotion, workforce and economic development, and signature community events that strengthen Boardman’s local economy and quality of life, according to a Chamber release on her Graduate Recognition.

Details concerning a celebration in honor of Philippi-Griggs’ IOM Graduate Recognition will be announced soon, according to the Boardman Chamber.
