The city of Boardman has placed a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries within the city limits.

The Boardman City Council approved the ordinance this week. The moratorium runs until May 1, 2015. Oregon cities and counties can enact moratoriums until May 1, 2015 to develop rules for locating medical marijuana facilities within the boundaries.

Earlier this month, the Umatilla City Council approved a one-year moratorium on medical marijuana facilities. The city is currently in the process of adopting regulations for the operation of dispensaries.

The city of Hermiston went a step further in March when the city council approved an outright ban on medical marijuana facilities within the city limits. Umatilla County also put a one-year moratorium on dispensaries. County Commissioners will use the one-year period to sort out how to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries.
