Brush fire in Hermiston burns about 5 acres

HERMISTON, Ore.-Fire crews remain on the scene of a small brush fire off of West Elm Avenue in Hermiston.

Umatilla County Fire District #1 crews responded to the fire around 9 a.m. and Boardman Fire Rescue and Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District provided mutual aid.

No injuries were reported in the fire that burned around five acres or less of trees and shrubbery, and the cause is unknown at this time, according to UCFD1.

Fire crews also responded to a fire in a commercial-style recycling container in the 300 block of Theater Lane in Hermiston on the afternoon of October 17.

According to UCFD1, firefighters moved the container away from a nearby building and trailer to keep the fire from spreading, before dumping the container and putting the fire out.

No injuries were reported in the container fire and the cause is under investigation.
