A full slate of activities and events will unfold in and around Hermiston this weekend and Northeast Oregon Now is here to help you sort them out:
• Eastern Oregon Arts Festival: The event gets under way this evening with an artist reception where regional artists will preview their works. The reception will feature live music by John Wambeke and Friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Pheasant Café & Lounge banquet room, 149 E. Main St. The reception is free to the public. The reception will also include a painting demonstration by three artists, light refreshments and a no-host bar. The art festival goes into full gear on Saturday, May 3 along the 100 and 200 blocks of Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. READ THE FULL PREVIEW
• Oxbow Trail Dedication: The city of Hermiston will celebrate the official opening of the Oxbow Trail and Trail Tracker Program on Saturday, May 3. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at 1100 S.W. Elm Ave., just west of Good Shepherd Medical Center. The trail meanders 1.5 miles through the historic Oxbow Property managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. • Hermiston Saturday Market: The market will be open for business from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 3 at McKenzie Park. Saturday marks the opening of the Hermiston Saturday Market season, which will be held in conjunction with the Eastern Oregon Arts Festival in downtown Hermiston. There will be vendors at the park, as well as a few on Main Street. Produce will be for sale and entertainment will be provided by the Round-Up City Cloggers at 9:30 a.m. Hermiston Saturday Markets will be held each Saturday at McKenzie Park through Oct. 25.
• Bloomer Girls Garden Club Plant Sale: The club will be holding its annual plant sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 3 at 401 W. Highland Ave., in Hermiston. Both indoor and outdoor plants will be available. Anyone who wants to donate a plant for the sale can drop it off prior to 8 a.m. For more information, call 541-561-3844.
• Boardman Cinco de Mayo: The city of Boardman will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May 3 at Boardman Marina Park. The day-long event will feature music, food and games for children. The event runs from noon to 10 p.m.
• Hermiston Cinco de Mayo: This year’s celebration will be held on Sunday, May 4 and will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. on Second Street that will end in front of Hermiston City Hall. Much of the entertainment and activities will take place in the parking lot directly across from city hall, as well as Main Street. Along with food and other vendors, the day will feature music and dancing from noon to 9 p.m. A beer garden will also be available throughout the day. The celebration is free to everyone in the community.
