Chris Cearns Passes Away at 85

Cruzita M. “Chris” Cearns of Hermiston died on June 18, 2026 in Hermiston at the age of 85.

She was born on May 3, 1941 in Pueblo, Colo. to Louis and Lucy Baker.

Chris earned associate degrees in business and in accounting. Chris was united in marriage to Arthur Cearns on Oct. 3, 1959 in Madras. They moved to Stanfield in 1971 and then to Hermiston in 2004, where she had lived since. She worked at the Lamb Weston Credit Union for several years and then at the Walmart store as the personnel manager before retiring after 20 years with the company.

Chris enjoyed her dogs, spending time with her family, attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, doing Sudoku and word search puzzles, gardening, traveling, reading and people watching.

She is survived by her children, William Robert Cearns, Christopher Arthur Cearns, Elizabeth Kay Michler and Tina May Kammerzell; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Chris was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.

Burial will follow at Skyview Memorial Park, Pendleton.
