HERMISTON, Ore. – The community is invited to help name Hermiston’s newest park in the Cimarron Recreation Area.

By responding to a survey, community members can help name the park located at 1552 NE 8th Place that was dedicated in 2024 as part of the Cimarron Terrace Development.

The area included in the park features wetlands for wildlife viewing and a system of unpaved trails, according to the Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department. Future development plans for the 9.22 acre park include a playground and recreation area.

The future development was made possible thanks to a $300,000 grant from Oregon’s Local Government Grant Program (LGGP).

According to Oregon State Parks, the agency that administers the grants, the LGGP was approved by voters in 1999, and is funded by the state lottery awarding around $5 million annually to projects across the Beaver State.

The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Committee is now asking residents to help come up with a name that is representative of both the park and the Hermiston community.

The brief three-question survey that asks what the park’s name should represent, such as a person, location or animal can be taken online or by scanning the QR code in the image provided by Hermiston Parks and Recreation.

In addition to submitting a park name proposal, the survey also allows respondents to explain their suggestions.
