MISSION, Ore.-The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) has declared a state of emergency due to the Hagen Fire in Umatilla County.
According to a press release on the emergency declaration, the CTUIR is in “imminent risk of fire danger related to the Hagen Fire near the Umatilla Indian Reservation’s (UIR) eastern boundary on Bingham Road, as well as a public health emergency related to persistent and continuous poor air quality.”
The state of emergency declared by the CTUIR Board of Trustees on July 22 will remain in effect until conditions significantly improve.
The Hagen Fire, just Southwest of Tollgate is currently estimated at 8,620 acres.
According to the CTUIR, local resources are at capacity and declaring a state of emergency allows the CTUIR to request both state and federal resources.
The state of emergency declaration also activates the CTUIR Emergency Management Plan, which will meet daily and is working with the Oregon Department of Human Services, Umatilla County Public Health, American Red Cross and Umatilla County Emergency Management.
An emergency shelter with clean air has been established at Sunridge Middle School at 700 S.W. Runnion Ave. in Pendleton.
