HERMISTON, Ore.-Doctors’ Day is March 30 and there’s still time to make a charitable donation to the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation (GSCHF) in honor of a healthcare worker in the local community.
“Doctors’ Day provides a special opportunity for our community to express gratitude to the healthcare professionals who make such a difference in our lives,” said Liz Marvin, Executive Director of the GSCHF.
Doctors’ Day is a national event to recognize the pivotal role physicians and other healthcare professionals play in safeguarding and improving the well-being of patients, according to the American Medical Association.
First celebrated in 1933, Congress passed a resolution recognizing Doctors’ Day in 1958 and the federal government passed a law establishing March 30 as Doctors’ Day in 1990.
Doctors’ Day continues to be an opportunity for health care institutions, patients and communities across the country to express their appreciation for healthcare workers.

“Through donations to the Foundation, we are able to honor these dedicated individuals by presenting them with a certificate of recognition and a basket of goodies,” said Marvin.
Donors may choose both the amount to give and the healthcare worker to honor, recognize or memorialize with a secure online donation, or by calling the GSCHF at 541-667-3419.
The GSCHF, a nonprofit public foundation, recognized over 20 local healthcare heroes as part of its Doctors’ Day appreciation efforts in 2024, including doctors and nurses in the community and EMTs with Umatilla County Fire District #1.
“It’s truly heartwarming to witness the genuine appreciation of the recipients as they receive their framed certificate of appreciation,” said Marvin.
