Douglas O. “Doug” Gunter of Hermiston died on March 24, 2025 in Hermiston at the age of 58.
He was born on July 1, 1966 in La Porte, Ind. to James and Doris Kirkland Gunter.
Douglas grew up in Cabot, Ark., where he graduated from Cabot High School. In 1988 he moved to Knoxville, Tenn., where he would eventually have and raise his sons. Throughout his career he worked in RV repairs, where he was valued for his knowledge and skilled craftsmanship, starting with bodywork but eventually encompassing all manners of work, including custom cabinetry. After over 30 years in Knoxville, Tenn., he moved in 2019 to Hermiston with his youngest sons, Mason and Max, to live with his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Leslie.
Douglas enjoyed playing poker, playing bingo, fishing, sightseeing on spontaneous drives, golfing, going to car shows, listening to his record collection, doing puzzles, playing Pokémon GO, enjoying nature, and most of all spending time with his boys. He could often be found enjoying a cup of coffee and a cigar on the porch at home.
Douglas will be remembered for his charm, kindness, humor, and fortitude, along with countless other admirable qualities.
He is survived by his stepson, Michael Charlton; sons, Mason, Max, and Matthew Gunter; his sister, Karen Gunter; brother, Tim Gunter; and five nieces.
