A Pasco man died Saturday afternoon in a collision at the Interstate 84 and Highway 395 interchange in Umatilla County.

According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), a Dodge pick-up driven by Lynn Dale Hiatt, 73, was traveling westbound on I-84 and had taken the milepost 188 exit when the driver failed to negotiate the turn onto Highway 395.

The pickup traveled across onto the southbound lanes of Highway 395, impacting with the left rear side of a semi-trailer.  The truck tractor, operated by Andrei Ceban, 30, from Vancouver, Wash., was in process of getting onto the I-84 on-ramp heading westbound.

Hiatt was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was accompanied by his wife, Remedios Hiatt, 76, and Lucia Casey, 54, both of Pasco. The two passengers were transported to the Good Shepherd Medical Center by ground ambulance.

Ceban was not injured in the crash.

The I-84 westbound off ramp, westbound on ramp and Highway 395 at milepost 12 were closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s, Stanfield Police Department, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Umatilla Fire District #1.
