Education expert Dr. Luis Cruz will return to Hermiston this week to help children and families be successful in school and life.
Cruz will speak at Hermiston High School on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the auditorium, starting at 5 p.m. with an English session. A family dinner of pizza and salad will be served in the HHS Commons at 6 p.m. for $2 per family. Tickets may be purchased at any elementary school office or at the door. A Spanish session will follow dinner and begin at 7 p.m. Families will be given practical ideas through an inspirational and humorous message.
Child care will be available on site.
Cruz is a former principal of Baldwin Park High School, located east of Los Angeles. His previous work experience includes being a teacher and administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. His recognitions include New Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and other community leadership awards. Cruz earned a doctorate in institutional leadership and policy studies from the University of California Riverside.
Dr. Cruz collaborated with HSD secondary schools during the 2013-14 school year presenting Parent University events. In similar fashion, Armand Larive Middle School will host Bullpup Parent University events on Tuesday, Feb. 24 (English) and Thursday, Feb. 26, (Spanish) at 6:30 pm each night in the ALMS Commons. Translation services will be provided each night. A potato bar will precede the event, beginning at 6 p.m., and childcare will be offered in room 103.
