IRRIGON, Ore.-The Annual Elf Run, a 5k fun run and fundraiser to benefit the Irrigon High School Softball team, is set for December 20 in Irrigon.
“We’ve done the run for other causes before, such as raising money for the Senior class, but this is the first time it will benefit the softball team,” said Irrigon Softball Head Coach Dan Locey.
All proceeds from the run will go toward purchasing new uniforms for Irrigon, something the Knights sorely need, according to their coach.
“The uniforms we have now are about four or five years old, and we only have one set,” said Locey.
The main goals of the Elf Run are to have fun and raise as much money for Irrigon Softball as possible. With sponsors for the race in place, such as Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston, any funds raised beyond what is required for uniforms will be used on basic softball equipment as needed, including catcher’s gear and bats, according to Locey.

The Elf Fun Run 5k will start at the Irrigon Marina Sports Complex at 9 a.m. and the course will be marked along two loops around backroads. Free hot cocoa and cookies will be available at the finish line.
“It’s going to be great, it’s an event that people really enjoy, and it will benefit our softball program,” said Locey. “Whether you run or walk, it’s all about having fun and enjoying the cold weather.”
While early registration for the Elf Run, that included a T-shirt closed December 7, runners and walkers can still register online or in person on the morning of the event. Registration for the Elf Run 5k is $28.
