HERMISTON, Ore.-A former Bulldog will lead the Hermiston High School track team next spring.

The Hermiston School District announced that Stephanie Miears, originally from Hermiston, who competed in throwing events as a student at Hermiston High, has been hired as the new Head Coach on October 21.

Miears competed collegiately at Washington State University before returning to Hermiston to teach. She volunteered as an assistant with Hermiston High’s track team for two years and was an official coach for throws last season.

“My vision for the team moving forward is to create a group that supports and holds each other accountable, not only at practice but in the classroom as well,” said Miears, who plans to build on a culture of pride, ownership, and shared success as Head Coach.

Miears attributes her development as a coach and leader to influential mentors she has had over the years, including former coach Emilee Strot, who sparked her passion for track and development as an athlete.

According to the Hermiston School District, Miears envisions a program built on trust, one that helps athletes grow through challenge and take joy in every opportunity to improve.

“I want our athletes to represent our program with pride and prepare to compete at the next level (State),” said Miers.
