Frank Ternes of Irrigon died on Sept. 2, 2015 in Hermiston at the age of 84.

He was born on July 23, 1931 in Flasher, N.D. to Joseph and Elizabeth Klein Ternes. Frank was raised and attended schools in Flasher, N.D. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1956. Frank married Bette Volk on June 4, 1958 in Selfridge, North Dakota. They moved to Portland, Oregon in 1963. Frank worked for several years as a local truck driver for ONC until his retirement. They moved to Irrigon, Oregon in 2001 where they were both active volunteers for Morrow County Transportation. Frank was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Hermiston, Oregon. He enjoyed Western Movies, hunting, gardening, all the animals on the farm, and time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Bette Ternes, Irrigon, OR; daughters: Brenda Murray (Robert), Jacksonville, FL, Cheryl Temple (Michael), Damascus, OR, Lynnette Veenstra (Cris), Portland, OR; son: Dale Ternes (Shannon), Hermiston, OR; sisters: Francine Neibauer, Portland, OR, Angie Eckroth, Gresham, OR, Veronica Bernhardt, Milwaukie, OR, Carol Kuntz, Bismarck, ND, Irene Huft, Bismarck, ND, Florence Hersch, Bismarck, ND, Alvina Ternes, Portland, OR, Rosie Lidfors, Beaverton, OR; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frank was preceded in death by a son: Bryan Ternes, his parents, sister: Daisy Peterson; and 3 brothers: Philip, Aloyiuse, and Leonard Ternes.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.

Burial followed at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Irrigon.
