Genardo Sanchez Passes Away at 87

Genardo Sanchez, formerly of Hermiston, passed away on March 22, 2025 surrounded by his family in Delano, Calif.

He was born on July 10, 1937 in Hondo, Texas to Maximino and Christina Garcia Sanchez.

Genardo was a self-taught man with lots of creativity and ambition. He loved to go hunting and fishing and was a great marksman. He also had a love for dance and would always take the opportunity to show off his dance moves. He always put his family first and was very proud of his children and their accomplishments.

Genardo will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support.

Genardo is survived by his children, Gloria (Robert) Aguilera, Max (Beverly) Sanchez, Genardo Sanchez Jr., Violanda (Raul) Aguilera, MaryJane (Bonefacio) Mangaser, Floria Cardenas, Mary Ellen (Timothy) Castner and Esmeralda (Pablo) Carrasco; 36 grandchildren; 143 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years and the love of his life, Francisca Arausa-Sanchez; son, Johnny Joe Sanchez; brothers, Alahas Sanchez and Pantalion Sanchez; and sisters, Andrea Sanchez and Pilar Sandoval.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 2 to 7 p.m. and the Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. in the Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.

Burial will follow in the Hermiston Cemetery.
