HERMISTON, Ore.- Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) hosted a ribbon cutting
event and open house on June 3 for its new Good Shepherd Orthopedics space at 1122 W. Elm Avenue in Hermiston.

Over 50 people, including GSHCS Administrators, members of the GSHCS Board of Trustees, Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, and community members attended the event.

“Thanks for joining us for this important ceremony as we expand our orthopedic footprint in
Umatilla and Morrow Counties,” said GSHCS President & CEO Art Mathisen.

Attendees enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and dessert at the ribbon cutting and had the opportunity to tour the 13,000 square foot facility that offers more exam and procedure rooms, as well as increased on-site radiology capacity.

“This comprehensive orthopedic practice allows us to meet the access needs of the community,” Mathisen said. “We don’t want our patients waiting months or even weeks before they can see a physician and start their journey to get back to being healthy again.”

Dr. Kyle Duncan, a Board-Certified Podiatrist, officially cut the blue ribbon outside the building that Good Shepherd Orthopedics moved into after renovating.

“The space was definitely needed for Good Shepherd’s growing orthopedic practice,” said Dr. Duncan. “It’s nice to finally have the space to take care of more people. More space means more providers, it’s that simple.”

The Good Shepherd Orthopedics team is comprised of seven physicians, specialized in advanced orthopedic treatments, including Mako robotic surgical intervention, joint replacements, sports medicine, arthroscopy, foot and ankle care, hand surgery, pain management and a variety of other general orthopedic services.

“This is a wonderful space with lots of room, and we’ve enjoyed support from the hospital and the community to help us succeed into the future,” said Dr. James Whittum, a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and Medical Director of Good Shepherd Orthopedics.

Drs. Patrick Dawson (Orthopedic Surgeon), Kyle Duncan (Podiatrist), Trey Rigert (Physiatrist), Tamara Simpson (Orthopedic Surgeon), Matthew Thompson (Orthopedic Surgeon), James Whittum (Orthopedic Surgeon) and Zhiqing Xing (Orthopedic Surgeon) are all welcoming new patients at Good Shepherd Orthopedics.
