HERMISTON, OR – In a heartfelt gesture of support for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer, the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation (GSCHF) proudly presented a collection of Breast Cancer Support Bags to the Good Shepherd Cancer Center. These thoughtfully curated bags, filled with comforting essentials, are designed to offer emotional support and encouragement to patients as they navigate the challenging journey of cancer treatment.

Each canvas tote bag includes a selection of items carefully chosen for their ability to provide comfort during treatment. Inside, patients will find a tumbler, tea, a cozy beanie, soft socks, an anti-nausea inhaler, and other thoughtful items. These gifts are meant to serve as a small but meaningful reminder that the community is thinking of them during this difficult time.

The Breast Cancer Support Bags project was made possible through the generous efforts of two key organizations: Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC) and River Point Farms. UEC, a member-owned electric cooperative that serves Eastern Oregon, played a pivotal role by raising funds through employee donations and a series of activities held throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. UEC’s commitment to community support is evident in their active engagement with local causes, and their generosity has made this initiative possible.

River Point Farms, a leading agricultural producer in Eastern Oregon, also contributed significantly to the project. Known for their high-quality onions and sustainability practices, River Point Farms supported the cause by donating a portion of the proceeds from their pink onion bag sales. Additionally, the farm rallied vendor partners and employees to join in the effort, further enhancing the impact of this community-driven initiative.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from both Umatilla Electric and River Point Farms,” said Liz Marvin, Executive Director of the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation. “The funds raised, and the involvement of these generous organizations are what made the creation of these Breast Cancer Support Bags possible. These small gestures of kindness can make a meaningful difference for patients who are going through such a difficult time. We hope the bags provide them with a sense of comfort and remind them that they are supported by their community every step of the way.”

The Breast Cancer Support Bags will be distributed to patients undergoing breast cancer treatment at the Good Shepherd Cancer Center. The Good Shepherd Cancer Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive care, from advanced treatment options to compassionate support – all within a community-centered environment. By offering both medical expertise and emotional care, the center strives to make the cancer journey as manageable as possible for patients and their families.

Through this partnership, the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, Good Shepherd Cancer Center, Umatilla Electric Cooperative, and River Point Farms are collectively making a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by breast cancer. This collaboration underscores the power of community involvement and the importance of offering both practical and emotional support to those in need.
