HERMISTON, Ore.-Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) honored employees who served in the military with a group photo on Veterans Day.
According to the United States Army Recruiting Command, only one percent of the total U.S. population currently serves in the military, a fact that GSHCS President and CEO Art Mathisen, who spent 20 years in the Army, believes highlights the importance of honoring America’s Veterans.
“When an individual signs on that dotted line to join the U.S. Military, they commit up to the cost of their lives, they’re willing to die for our country,” Mathisen said. “We never hope for war, we don’t want war, but if we are called to do our duty, we do so willingly to defend our freedom.”
Veterans who were able to attend the photo were also given gift bags with assorted goodies, including magnets, flags, pins and ornaments in recognition of their service.
