Gregg Alan Walchli died on Nov. 6, 2025 at home with family after a courageous 10-month battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).

He was born on April 27, 1962.

Gregg grew up in Hermiston and attended Hermiston High School where, in 1980, he was a part of the 4×400 relay team which set the school record – which stood for 30 years. Gregg studied accounting and finance at the University of Oregon, Eugene. He was a valued employee for over 25 years at Integrated Real Estate in Seattle.

While running at lunch time on the Seattle waterfront, he met his wife, Cheri Pompeo. With Cheri, Gregg ran marathons on seven continents, three times around all 50 states, and all the provinces and territories of Canada. He completed over 333 marathons in over 30 countries before a knee injury limited him to shorter distances. He was an amazing travel planner and arranged for and accompanied Cheri to 60 countries for marathons. Gregg’s passion for the Rolling Stones complemented his running passion. He became a fan as a preteen and attended every concert available to him. Many times, these coincided with marathon trips in the U.S. and Europe.

Gregg is survived by his wife, Cheri Pompeo; sons, Mick and Dylan Walchli; stepchildren, Maureen Gillis, Ian Gillis and Marissa Moon; sisters, Cheryl Walchli and Diane Fetterhoff; brother, Phillip Walchli; mother, Marge Walchli; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Walchli.

There will be a celebration of life in the new year. The date will be announced later.

Donations may be made in Gregg’s honor to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation online.
