Gregorio “Don Goyo” Martinez De Leon of Stanfield died on Jan. 31, 2019 in Newburg at the age of 77.

He was born on March 12, 1941 in Repueblo de Oriente, Nuevo Leon in northern Mexico. He was the oldest of 13 children of Domingo Martinez and Eloisa De Leon.

Gregorio met his wife, Rosamaria Zapata Palacios in central Mexico. They married in 1963 and had six children, eventually settling in Echo and Stanfield in the early 1980s.

Gregorio’s family were his biggest source of pride and spending time with them was his greatest joy. Always ensuring that they were provided for and happy, Gregorio knew no bounds in his loyalty and help for them.

Gregorio also loved spending time with his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom would love to gather around him to hear his childhood stories and singing. He loved to joke and make them laugh. All felt loved and cared for by him with his big hugs and heartfelt advice.

Gregorio was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by all of his children, Martin, Guadalupe, Eduardo, Delta, David and Jorge, as well as eight grandchildren, Xochitl, Aaron, Ezri, Samuel, Sofia, Diego, David and Jimena.
