HERMISTON, Ore.- Free sports physicals are available for students in the Hermiston School District (HSD) on August 11 and 12, to ensure they’re ready to get back on the field when school starts.

Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) Pediatrics is providing the free physicals for students in the Hermiston High School Auxiliary Gym.

“We saw a need in the community that Good Shepherd Health Care System could help fill,” said Mellysa Seewer, a Practice Manager with GSHCS Pediatrics. “It’s amazing to be able to do this for all students in the Hermiston School District.”

Three GSHCS Pediatrics providers and five support staff are providing the physicals that are intended for students of Sandstone Middle SchoolArmand Larive Middle School, and Hermiston High School.

“We want to be able to support and care for adolescents and the pediatric community locally,” said Pediatrician Dr. Madalina Mindrut, MD, FAAP, Pediatric Medical Director at GSHCS. “Good Shepherd Pediatrics is part of the community, and we intend to ensure everyone gets the care they need.”

Physicals for students in grades 6-9 will be available 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., while physicals for grades 10-12 will be offered from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on both August 11 and 12.

According to Seewer, over 120 students received sports physicals in the first five hours of the day.

Sports physicals include measurements of height, weight, blood pressure and pulse, and an eye exam before students are seen by a physician.

“By being here and making it easy to get a physical, we’re hoping it’s also easier for more teens to sign up for sports,” said Dr. Mindrut. “We love to have active teens and adolescents and to promote overall healthy lifestyles.”

No appointment is necessary for the physicals. Anyone with any questions about the physicals is asked to call 541.667.3740.
