Helen May Woods, formerly of Gravette, Ark., died on June 6, 2026 in Hermiston at the age of 85.
She was born on Oct. 1, 1940 in San Jose, Calif. to Lawrence “Ted” Woods and Nellie Woods.
She grew up in John Day, moving with her family to the Gravette area when she was a senior in high school and completing her education at Gravette High School. Helen worked on the family farm for a number of years and finished her work career at the lunch room for the Gravette School District, retiring after 28 years. She was inherently kind and friendly and was acknowledged as the “best sports fan” one year by the Gravette High School students, who appreciated her smiles and encouragement. She moved with her mother, Nellie, to Hermiston in 2004.
Helen valued her family and enjoyed every moment spent with those she loved. Helen was provided with support and love in Hermiston by her sister, Doris Gaylord (late Dale); her niece and nephew-in-law, Dorene and Chuck West; nephew, Joe and wife Jody Gaylord; and her great-nephew and his wife, Shann and Kena West. She appreciated many acts of thoughtfulness over the years by her cousin, JeanAnn (Mark) Sovereign. She is also survived by sister, Nina Woods (Paul Reiser) and their children, Lauren Reiser and Matthew Reiser.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ted and Nellie Woods.
Helen enjoyed the kindness of the staff at Sun Terrace and the care provided by hospice at the end of her life.
She enjoyed being a part of celebrations and just being with family.
A private service will be held.
Private burial will be at the Hermiston Cemetery.
