Hermiston FFA brings home top honors from State Convention

HERMISTON, Ore.-Hermiston Future Farmers of America (FFA) brought several awards back to the east side of the state from the recent Oregon State FFA Convention in Redmond.

Hermiston FFA was honored with the Superior Chapter Award, and several members also won awards or qualified for Nationals at the March 20-23 convention.

“These students continue to represent Hermiston with excellence, passion, and leadership,” said Sandy McKay, Hermiston FFA Advisor who will be a judge at the California FFA Convention this spring. “We’re proud of their hard work and success.”

The Superior Chapter Award is presented for strong community involvement, active participation in FFA events, and excellence in chapter operations, according to a Hermiston School District (HSD) press release.

Hermiston FFA’s Advanced Parliamentary Procedure team of Cheyanne Lancaster, Balie Wilson, Taylee Smith, Alexis Sinor, Kari Bazan, and Jesse Kirkpatrick took first place at the state convention and qualified for nationals.

The Agricultural Issues team of Elle Blakely, Cozy Cooley, Cate Doherty, Addie Alder, and Ainsley McCann also brought a first-place finish home to Hermiston and will compete at nationals.

According to the HSD, several individual Hermiston FFA members were also awarded, including Cate Doherty who placed second in Employment Skills and Casey Scott who qualified for Nationals in the Agriscience Fair.

Hermiston FFA members Catherine Doherty, Delaney Wieseler, Daniel Meyers, Jedidiah Golightly, Gaby Mendoza, and Denisse Bracamontes were all awarded state FFA degrees at the convention.
