HERMISTON, Ore.-Principal Tom Spoo has been recognized for Hermiston High’s support of National Guard and Reserve military members in the workplace.
“We are honored to receive this recognition and incredibly proud of Tom Spoo’s dedication to supporting our military-affiliated employees,” said Dr. Tricia Mooney, Superintendent of the Hermiston School District.
Principal Spoo and Hermiston High were recognized by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program.
Principal Spoo received the Patriotic Employer Award that honors employers who go above and beyond in their support of employees with military commitments, ensuring they can serve their country and maintain civilian careers.
Jason Lambert, a math teacher at Hermiston High, nominated Principal Spoo for the award due to his leadership, dedication, respect, flexibility and encouragement of service members in the workplace, according to the Hermiston School District.
“Jason Lambert’s nomination is a testament to the positive and inclusive work environment we strive to maintain in the Hermiston School District,” said Dr. Mooney.
Hermiston High also recently signed a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve, which re-affirmed its support of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and its commitment to fostering a workplace that accommodates the obligations of service members.
